So what you want to do is
turn right out of the parking lot and
drive past the Mocha Moose
to the blinking red light where
traffic gets really bad after five
oclock. You will probably have to
roll down your window and smile
so someone will let you out, but
it might take five cars or so.
If a train is not coming (they
often do this time of day)
then turn left on to the main
parkway and head towards the bay.
The sun should be setting by now
so you will know you’re going the right
way if you have to pull down your visor.
You should also pass this mexican
place with a sign for margaritas and
happy hour from one until seven.
Yes one until seven.
You should keep going for a couple
of miles until you get to these construction
signs, and it looks like the the road is
blocked off. Don’t pay attention to the
signs, drive right through them. Park
at the edge of the water and walk out to
the bridge – that’s where we are going to meet.
Just wait for time to slow down a little bit
you should feel it tugging on your shoulders
and pulling on the corners of your lips
That’s where we will meet.
I will see you there
At the edge of the bridge that is no longer a bridge
When your mind rolls to a stop like a cement mixer.
I will see you there, where you had your first beer
where we blew out your birthday candles
where we thought that girl – what was her name? –
was really going to jump into the water
where we threw those bottles at the train
and became “those people.”
You have always loved this memory
And I will see you there.
